Day 1. If this is an extension after a one day Santa Eulalia trip (lower section), we shall start birding from Huachupampa and make sure we are at the Polylepis forest before 8 AM to be able to see White-cheeked Cotinga. If this is a trip starting from Lima we need a 4 AM start to be at the Polylepis around 8 AM.
We continue in the highlands via Ticlio adding White-bellied Cinclodes and Diademed Sandpiper-Plover on our way to Junin (4100m), where we shall spend the night. (if you are not yet aclimatized it would be an idea to continue to Tarma to stay overnight here and a surcharge of $25/person)
Day 2. Most of day at Lake Junin looking for the Grebe and other birds in the area such a Dark-winged and Common Miner, Short-billed and Correndera Pipits, Black-breasted Hillstar, Andean Negrito, and many others. With some luck we may even find the very secretive Junin Rail. Calculate with 5 hours to get back to Lima from Junin.
