In 2018 Gunnar set up a 10 day trip for bird photographer Dustin Chen around in Bahia. Now we are expanding that itinerary to three weeks, and focusing on hard core intensive 24/7 birding. Lots of driving but high rewards in endemic and endangered birds. Join us at an unbeatable price of only $4500 and max 4 passengers. Normal price would be $5390 with minumum 5 people.

 THE TOUR
 
March 19. Day 1 Arrival Salvador. Drive to Acua Boa Farm - Bahia Tapaculo.
 
March 20. Day 2. to Reserva Serra Bonita.
 
March 21. Day 3. Reserva Serra Bonita.

Serra Bonita is a private reserve protecting the recently described and threatened Pink-legged Gravateiro. There are a number of forest birds that can be seen and photographed here for mobile bird photographers but the also have a big battery of feeders with species like
Green-headed Tanager, Red-necked Tanager, Brazilian Tanager, Azure-shouldered Tanager, Green Honeycreeper, Spot-billed Toucanet, Maroon-bellied Parakeet, Sombre Hummingbird, Brazilian Ruby, Scale-throated Hermit and Black Jacobin. Serra Bonita is also famous for their Caipirinhas. 
 
March 22. Day 4. To Veracel
Stop on the way to try for the coastal form of White-winged Potoo at Estação Veracel.
 
March 23. Day 5 Veracel
It is the only place for Banded Cotinga which will be very difficult to find and photograph, but we shall make a try regardless. But there are other nice birds such as White-winged Cotinga, Black-headed Berryeater, Hook-billed Hermit Glaucis dohrnii, Bahia Antwren Herpsilochmus pileatus, Band-tailed Antwren, Red-browed Parrot and Blue-throated Parakeet
 
March 24. Day 6 Vercel to Streseman’s Bristlefront. Due to the forest fires male have not been seen for quite a while, but a female was seen in November. 
 
March 25. Day7 .Streseman’s Bristlefront - Boa Nove. 
 
March 26. Day 8. Boa Nova. 

Boa Nova is one of the most famous birding sites in NE Brazil, with a number of endemics. A good spot to see and photograph Pin-tailed Manakin.

Many special birds such as
Slender Antbird, Narrow-billed Antwren, Striated Softail, Bahia Spinetail, Bahia Tyrannulet, Rio de Janeiro Antbird, Fork-tailed Tody-Tyrant, Cinnamon-vented Piha, Sharpbill, Ochre-rumped Antbird, Mantled Hawk and Buff-throated Purpletuft. 

March  27. Day 9 Boa Nova 
Additional birding at Boa Nova

March  28. Day 10 Boa Nova to Caetite 
In Caetité we look for the restricted, and endemic Minas Gerais Tyrannulet, and many other Caatinga and Cerrado endemics such as Toco Toucan and Helmeted Manaking, as well as Great Xenops and Sao Francisco Sparrow plus Narrow-billed Antwren. 
 
March 29. Day 11 to Mucuge.
Mucuge additional Chapada birds like Rufous-sided Pygmy-Tyrant, Gray-backed Tachuri, Collared Crescentchest and White-banded Tanager can be photographed and it is the best place for the lovely hummingbird Horned Sungem
 
March 30 Day 12. to Chapada do Diamantina., Lencois
Some forest birds we may look for White-shouldered Fire-eye, White-bibbed Antbird, Rusty-breasted Nunlet, Rufous-capped Antthrush, Pale-bellied Tyrant-Manakin and White-naped Jay.
 
March 31. Day 13. Chapada do Diamantina, Lencois.
Morning on the plateau for Hooded Visorbearer. Other birds here include São Francisco Sparrow, Broad-tipped Hermit, Spotted Piculet, Silvery-cheeked Antshrike and Caatinga Antwren and with some luck Scarlet-throated Tanagers. Rest of the day at Casa da Geleia with the feeders.
 
April 1. Day 14. Long drive to Canudos. 
Blue-winged Macaws, Cliff Flycatcher, Blue-crowned Parakeet, Stripe-breasted Starthroat, Blue-crowned and Caatinga Parakeets, Lesser Wagtail-tyrant, Glittering-bellied Emerald, Swallow-tailed Hummingbird, Ultramarine Grosbeak.
 
April 2. Day 15. Morning Raso Catarina and Lear's Macaw. Drive to Chapada do Aripe.
Lear's Macaw is the highlight of the day.  Perhaps already Aripe Manakin this afternoon
 
April 3. Day 16. Potengi
Stripe-backed Antbird, Great Xenops. and Silvery-cheeked Antshrike.
 
April 4. Day 17. Potengi-Serra Baurite
At Serra Baurite we shall look for Gray-breasted Parakeet, Gould’s Toucanet, Buff-breasted Tody-Tyrant, Gray-headed Spinetail, Ceara Gnateater, and Ceara Leaftosser. 
 
April 5. Day 18. Serra Baurite-Icapui-Uniao dos Palmares. 

Quebrangulo for Forbes’ Blackbird
 
April 6. Day 19. Murici. Alagoas Antwren (with lots of luck), Alagoas Tyrannulet and Seven-coloured Tanager.  
 
April 7  Day 20. Frei Caneca Reserve - drive to Estancia.
Fringe-backed Fireeye.

April 8 Day 21. Estancia AM, drive to Bahia Flight to Sao Paulo at 16:45 Arr 19:25
