  Marvelous Spatuletail twitch 5 days

 INTRODUCTION:

THE Hummingbird of the Hummingbirds. Here is the fast and comfortable way to see it. This short 5 day trip to Northern Peru gives you a fantastic cut-through of the one of the most diverse regions on Earth. Marvellous Spatuletail is the key species, but many others such as White-winged Guan, Peruvian Plantcutter, Elegant and Marañon Crescentchests, Little Inca-Finch, Royal Sunangel, Little Woodstar, Lulu's Tody-Tyrant and Long-whiskered Owlet will also be search for. This trip will give around 200 species in spite of its short duration.

 THE TOUR:

Day 0. Lima-Chiclayo flight

Night flight (20.10) to Chiclayo. Hotel Inti

Day 1. Bosque Pomac and Quebrada El Limon. Peruvian Plantcutter and Tumbes Tyrant


Visit Bosque Pomac for the special birds Peruvian Plantcutter,Tumbes Swallow and Rufous Flycatcher and common birds such as Necklaced Spinetail, Scarlet-backed Woodpecker, Streak-headed Woodcreeper, Superciliaried Wren.  En route to Olmos we search for Tumbes Tyrant. Afternoon at QUebrada El Limon for White-winged Guan, Guayaquil Woodpecker, Pacific Elaenia and many more. Night in Olmos.

Day 2. Porculla pass and Jaen. Marañon Crescentchest and Black-cowled Saltator


In the morning we shall be birding near Abra Porculla for Black-cowled Saltator, Elegant Crescentchest, Chapaman's Antshrike, Henna-hooded and Rufous-necked Foliagegleaner, etc. In the afternoon we shall be birding near for Chinchipe Spinetail, Marañon Crescentchest, Marañon (Northern) Slaty Antshrike etc. Night at Hotel Prims in Jaen.

Day 3. Jaen to Pomacochas. Little Inca-Finch and Little Woodstar


Early search for Little Inca-Finch and departure to Pomacochas. Afternoon birding at Centro de interpretacion where there are feeders to which Marvelous Spatuletail comes into. Other hummingbirds include Little Woodstar and Emerald-bellied Puffleg.  Comfortable hotel in Pomacochas

Day 4. Pomacochas to Abra Patricia Lodge. Marvellous Spatuletail.and Long-whiskered Owlet.


Birding hill near Pomacochas where often Marvelous Spatuletail males can be seen lekking. Continue to Abra Patricia and bird there during the afternoon. There are good hummingbird feeders here as well. Recently the rare Purple-bibbed Whitetip was seen here. In the vicinity one may spot flocks of White-capped Tanager. Night search for Long-whiskered Owlet near the lodge. NIght at Abra Patricia Long-whiskered Owlet Lodge.

Day 5. Abra Patricia to Tarapoto. Royal Sunangel and Bar-winged Wood-Wren.


Birding Abra Patricia in morning and midday birding around Afluentes. Very good flocks. A sample of the birds of the area will be seen of which many are endemics. There is a stake-out for the localized Royal Sunangel for example. 3-4 hour drive to Tarapoto for 22.05 flight to Lima
